5 Long Series Woes

There was a time in my life when my favorite thing to do was find ridiculously sized series with giant novels that were obviously compensating for something. You know exactly what I’m talking about. You know, those series that just seem to keep going on and on and by reading them you had literally read 10’s of thousands of pages. Now that I have to do things, um, like work, I do not have the time to tackle such monstrous tomes. However, there will probably always be series that I hope to finish, one day (probably when I retire). Title: Cress Series: Lunar Chronicles #3 Author: Marissa Meyer Publication Year: 2014 Pages: 550 Publisher: Feiwel & Friends Date Started: February 4, 2017 Date Finished: February 15, 2017 Format: Kindle Beverage of choice: Zesty orange soda I have to hand it to Meyer, I think this is the first series I have read that gets consistently better with every installment. Cress was a fun book from cover to cover. I am a suck er for fairy tale retellings, and it’s easy to get me to start one, but I usually get bored and frustrated if it goes on too long (Once Upon a Time, anyone? Ugh). Title: Sorry to Disrupt the Peace Author: Patty Yumi Cottrell Publication Date: March 14, 2017 Pages: 288 Publisher: McSweeney’s Date Started: April 9, 2017 Date Finished: May 4, 2017 Format: Hardcover Sorry to Disrupt the Peace was a very different book from what I normally read. It was raw and real and gritty. It was essentially a stream of consciousness, presented from the mind of the narrator. I have to hand it to Cottrell, I have never felt like I was actually in someone’s mind before, but this novel was extremely convincing. Or, at least, it was very much like the inside of my mind and how I think. Maybe it’s not normal, who knows? This novel follows Helen Moran after the death of her adoptive brother. She returns to the home of her adoptive parents and proceeds to process her grief over his suicide.
